Berlin Notes: Events
Upcoming events in Berlin.
One thing you won't find in the works of Roger Melis, Martin Roemers and Walter Vogel are clichés. Their works, depicting different aspects of working life in the post-war Germanies, go on show today at the Willy-Brandt-Haus, headquarters of Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD), under the title "Arbeit und Alltag 1951-1992" ("Work and Everyday Life 1951-1992")

This year's Berlin Marathon was a record breaker: 2006 winner Haile Gebrselassie (Ethopia) took 30 seconds off the world record with a time of just 2:04:26, once again highlighting Berlin's very fast and flat course. Behind him were 40,214 other runners of all ages and nationalities, as well as 10,000 schoolchildren and 9,000 wheeled competitors in separate races.

Berlin has more miles of canal and more bridges than Venice - blah blah. Venice is a tiny place, so any
decently-sized city can make this claim. However Berlin has seen a lot of bridge-building activity
in recent years - since reunification more than 190 have been built. The Galerie Ingenieurkunst in
Mitte is celebrating this with an exhibition showing some of the more impressive constructions
titled "Berliner Brücken - Verbindungen nach der Wende" (Berlin's Bridges: Post-unification connections") running until November 4th.
