There's more to film festivals in Berlin than just the Berlinale: coming up fast is the PornfilmfestivalBerlin, which according to its website "prides itself on showcasing the best porn-related films and videos from around the globe".
Friday, September 7, 2007
Tattoos have long since left their niche exsistence and have become part of mainstream life. The Museum for Communication in the Leipziger Straße is now showing an exhibition of 20 individuals and their tatts - ranging from construction workers to graphic designers.
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
On the weekend of August 25 / 26, the Federal Government is throwing open its doors to all and sundry,
i.e. the common people like you and me, so we can go sniffing round their offices - for free. It's called
Tag der offenen Tür (literally "Day of the Open Door") and
All the major ministerial
buildings in the centre of Berlin, as well as the Federal Chancellery
will be "open" - although
usually with some sort of event going on in the garden / courtyard, and carefully controlled guided tours
through the respective building itself.
Thursday, May 31, 2007
From June 1st to October 7th, the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York will be making a guest appearance at Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie (New National Gallery) with around 150 masterpieces of nineteenth-century French artists. Highlights will include Manet's "Boating", Monet's "La Grenouillère", Ingres' "Odalisque in Grisaille", Courbet's "Woman with a Parrot", Degas' "The Dancing Class", Gauguin's "la Orana Maria (Hail Mary)" and Rodin's touching sculpture "The Burghers of Calais".
Sunday, April 22, 2007
It's pretty certain that the Loveparade has
left Berlin for the forseeable future - the only question is
where it will end up. According to this article
from the Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel the
Loveparade 2007 will be taking place in the western German city of
Essen. Up until now Essen - a post-industrial (read: rust-belt)
part of the Ruhr area - has not had a reputation as a cool techno
location, or indeed cool anything . (It should be noted that in 2003,
global brand Coca Cola relocated its German headquarters from Essen to
Berlin, leaving behind the German headquarters of shoe shop chain
Deichmann and discount supermarket Aldi).
Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Check out Berlin's hippest new location - yes, it's a genuine Döner
fast-food restaurant. The Bagdad in Kreuzberg's Schlesisches Tor
area is hosting it's very own Dönerstag-Event tonight from 11pm (that's
a play on the German for "Thursday", Donnerstag). DJs Mantu and Buggy will be playing elektro, there may - or may not, depending on the crowd - be a "Miss Sexy Döner Contest".
Monday, April 2, 2007
