Brandenburger Tor is an S-Bahn and U-Bahn station located on the western end of Unter den Linden near Pariser Platz. Both S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations are underground, and each has a single island platform.

Convenient for

Pariser Platz, Brandenburg Gate, French Embassy in Berlin, Hotel Adlon.

History

The station was originally opened as "Unter den Linden" on May 28, 1936 as the southern terminal of the first section of the north-south S-Bahn tunnel from Humboldthain, which was opened on the same day. (The remaining section of the tunnel via Potsdamer Platz and Anhalter Bahnhof was opened in 1939).

Between 1961 and 1989 it was a so-called ghost station: as only West Berlin trains were able to use the tunnel, the station was closed and sealed off. It was reopened in 1990.

On August 9 2009, together with the opening of the U55, the station received its current name, "Brandenburger Tor" (Brandenburg Gate).
