Rathaus Schöneberg (Station)

U-Bahnhof Rathaus Schöneberg
Old U-Bahn train at Rathaus Schöneberg station on Berlin's U4
An U-Bahn museum train at Rathaus Schöneberg

Rathaus Schöneberg is a station on Berlin's U-Bahn line U4. First opened on December 1st, 1910, it is situated where the line traverses a dip in the ground (the Schwarzer Graben), which is formed by the course of an old waterflow and which is unsuitable for building on. This dip runs in a roughly east-west direction through Berlin, and for the most part is used as a park. The section around the station is landscaped as a formal garden, and the station has picture windows on both sides overlooking this. Due to the unsolid nature of the ground here, the station rests on three 70m long concrete pillars.
