SchönebergLocated in the former West Berlin, the area of Schöneberg betweenNollendorfplatz and Wittenbergplatz is the traditional centre of gay Berlin. The area first became known as a gay location in the 20's, with bars, cabarets and of course Christopher Isherwood, who lived in the area and set many of his novels there. To get a feel for the area, start off at Nollendorfplatz - check out the two gay memorials at the south exit - and take a stroll down the Motzstraße, maybe peeking into some of the side streets. The area is full of gay bars, cafés, shops and nightclubs. When you reach the main Martin-Luther-Straße, take a turn northwards to the next crossing with the aptly-named Fuggerstraße, and continue west towards Lietzenburger Straße. Here, particularly at the crossing with Welserstraße, you'll find more clusters of gay establishments. To wrap up the tour, take a break at HarDie's Kneipe just behind the KaDeWe, or grab some gay chips at Fritz & Co. on Wittenbergplatz. InfocentresCafés and Bars
