Babies and Children

Babies

There are lots of small, independent baby/children shops dotted about all over the city - ask friends and neighbours for reccomendations. At the moment the Prenzlauer Berg district is experiencing a bit of a baby boom, and child and baby shops are springing up all over the place.

"baby-korb" (lit.baby cradle) is one of Berlin's most established baby goods stores and is located at Bundesallee 17,10717 Berlin (Tel. (030) 8833007) near Spichernstraße (Station), with lots of strollers and baby furniture). Unfortunately their website at http://www.babykorb.de/ is quite useless, as it tries to present you with an English version which contains no useful information, and the German version with address etc. only appears if you set up your web browser to request German pages).

"Baby-Walz" (http://www.baby-walz.com/) is a German chain with slightly pricey but cute baby goods. They have two stores in Berlin: one in the Forum Landsberger Allee (link) and one in the Knesebeckstraße in Charlottenburg (link).

Toys'R'Us / Babies'R'Us have many branches in Berlin and the surrounding area - check out their website at http://www.toysrus.de/ for addresses (the site is German-only; click on the "Toys'R'Us Storefinder" link at the bottom left of the site; enter your postcode in the "PLZ" box and / or "Berlin" in the "Ort" box and it will display the nearest addresses.

Of course there's always IKEA for the basics at low-ish prices.
