Yet more new hotels
Berlin's "hotel boom" shows no sign of ending: two new hotels, both close to the Alexanderplatz, have just been announced.
The 3-4 star Hotel am Königstor (Otto-Braun-Straße 90, close to the entrance to Volkspark Friedrichshain) is being created in a former GDR building constructed in 1956, which until recently was home to a branch of Germany's federal police. It will have around 350 rooms and will be managed by the Israeli Fattal Group (website), who also manage other hotels in Berlin such as the Excelsior Hotel.
Further down the Otto-Braun-Straße, at the intersection with Mollstraße, the foundation stone for a new branch of Accor Group's budget Etap Hotel chain has just been laid. The 1-star hotel, due to open in 2009, will have 156 rooms.
