ZDF (short for Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen, "second German television (channel)" is, as its name implies, the second "state" broadcaster in Germany (after ARD).

Bases in Mainz, it has rather a staid reputation (the kind of channel your grandparents would watch), although in recent years it has been doing its best to become hip and trendy, including a catchy orange colour scheme.
