Berlin isn't just about polar bears - it has its very own Bear Pit where the official Berlin bears (brown, not polar) reside - and, following the death of "Thilo" in April this year, "Schnute" has now been formally named as the official Berlin City Bear (Stadtbär).

Schnute was born in the Bärenzwinger on January 18, 1981 and together with Thilo has produced several batches of offspring, including daughter Maxi who lives together with her in the Bärenzwinger. It's not yet known whether there will be a replacement for Thilo.
