Amerika-Haus for sale
The body charged with marketing Berlin's surplus real estate, the Liegenschaftfonds, has just announced that the Amerika-Haus next to Zoo Station is up for sale.
The Amerika-Haus was the USA's "cultural embassy" in the former West Berlin, and is a two storey listed building built in 1956/57. It closed in 2006. Originally the local district council, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, wanted to use it to house a "West Berlin Museum", but the usual financial constraints meant nothing have come of this.
While there is potential for additional construction on the site, any potential purchaser will have to provide a convincing usage concept for the existing building.
