The British Embassy in Berlin

Botschaft des Vereinigten Königreichs

The British Embassy in Berlin The British Embassy, opened in 2000, was built on the site of the palace of railway magnate Bethel Henry Strousberg, which was used by the British Embassy from 1884 until the outbreak of the Second World War. The new embassy building was designed by Michael Wilford, a long-time partner of architect James Stirling.

The Embassy is located in Berlin's traditional diplomatic quarter on the Wilhelmstraße, an important north-south route through the city centre, not far from Unter den Linden and the Brandenburg Gate. Although not as heavily fortified as its American counterpart, the section of road in front of the Embassy is blocked by retractable pollards which are meant to ward off road-vehicle orientated suicide bombers.

Current British Ambassador is Sir Michael Arthur.
