Marga Schoeller Bücherstube (Bookshop)

The Marga Schoeller Bücherstube is a Berlin establishment - first opened in 1929, it specialised in literature and especially theatre works. It survived the Nazi era and the war to reopen in 1945 as the first bookstore in the British sector and soon became a focal point of West Berlin's literary scene, and boast such prominent names as W. H. Auden, Samuel Beckett, T. S. Eliot, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann or Thornton Wilder among its guests and customers. Originally located on the Ku'damm, it moved to the nearby Knesebeckstraße in 1974.

The Bücherstube has retained its literary atmosphere and often has free coffee and sometimes even cakes for its customers. The bookshop is divided into English and German sections, with an excellent selection of new English titles and also non-fiction and academic works. The staff know their books too.

Note: Marga Schoeller Bücherstube does not have a website.
