The U55 is Berlin's shortest U-Bahn line, linking Brandenburger Tor station with Hauptbahnhof via the Bundestag and was opened on August 8th 2009, several years later than planned following continuing construction delays.

The U55 will eventually form part of a westwards extension of the U5 from Alexanderplatz. Construction began in 2010 and is scheduled for completion in 2017.
